World Boss Revision - Discussions and Planning

People been asking it for a long time, got a chance to observe WB, saw it go down in a couple of minutes. I'll be rolling out these changes in the following week or month.
  • World Bosses affected by the changes are in the table below.
    • World Boss timers will be untouched.
    • Stats and drop rate will be changed to accommodate the increase in stats.
      Increasing specific drop rates of accessories increased to 10%
      Trash loot such as crafted/recipes of ELN/GC will be removed and replaced.
    • Red "PVP" will be enabled towards all players in the map, even clanmates and squadmates.
    • Boss will spawn at an inital spot and move around in a large radius. If it goes out of the radius, it'll return to the initial spot with HP recovered. If you don't want the boss to be dragged out. Prepare your PVP disablers.
  • Possible Ideas
    • Increase attendance of world bosses by introducing roulette on monster death, letting everyone atleast get something for their 1~2 hour participation. more players, more pvp, and more fun.
      Of course, roulette would be basic.

*1~2 hour participation - boss dies in 1-2 minutes now
*more players, more pvp, and more fun - We all know that one clan + ally control WB these days. They're the only clans who benefit from WB. Any PVE clan that joined the fun got warred.

My suggestion is:
If you want all clans to enjoy WB, we can make all WB maps neutral, it means no one turns red. In this case, everyone can come and kill it. Someone who got the highest DPS gets the loot so all clans can make their strategy (just like bringing their buffers/debuffers).

WB is a PVP element of the game. You want the BIS item, you fight for it. There is nothing from WB that is required at all to complete the most difficult raids in the game.

For the carebears PVE faction, there is mission raids.

PVE can enjoy WB, just prepared to PVP, get war declared. There's a reason why PVE faction call themselves PVE faction.

One issue with this game is it rewards griefing too much. Let's say a faction attempts to compete for WBs, they will immediately get warred and spend the next few months getting ganked while afk farming in maps. I call this garbage unfun game design. For the longest of time, GE has suffered this gatekeeping issue, participating in field bosses results in being unable to farm outside as a consequence. But you know what? Too much of PVP makes players burn out, and they stop playing altogether. So why not concentrate PVP activity in WBs instead and let people have fun for 1-2 hours then everyone go back to their usual business?

PVP element SHOULD be contained within PVP activities, i.e. Clique Battle, Colony War, World Bosses, not bleeding to PVE aspect of the game. The reason CB is so popular is because of anonymity, both sides do not know who killed them so there is no bad blood and no retaliation thereafter.

My suggestion: disable pvp for most maps, leaving the maps that have world bosses, field bosses pvp enabled. Only after taking care of the consequences should you attempt to adjust WBs

World Boss encounters in GE have always been about competition & PVP. Removing the PVP element from it is a definite NO. PVE players have many avenues to compete in more "friendly" environments.

Besides revising the World Boss loot table, I believe the devs are trying to increase player participation so it isn't just the same group of people in every single encounter which may eventually become a monopoly (if it isn't already) for the winning group. By increasing player participation and introducing the "everyone-is-red" mechanic, the element of chaos is introduced/increased which subsequently increases the chance of unexpected outcomes - and hopefully, making it harder to monopolize WBs.

I also understand the intent behind roulettes for participating players. However, the implementation has to be perfect to prevent abuse (a very tall task in my opinion). It's very obvious that most players would just park alts and even mains (either at the start or nearing the end of the encounter), then go AFK and not participate at all - similar to what happens in WxPvP.

This point does intrigue me. What about implementing player anonymity for World Boss encounters? Oh wait, that's essentially Poison Yard. But, still a possible idea to toy with.

Disclaimer: I do not currently participate in World Boss encounters in AGE simply because of the negative implications it entails but, I've participated in it a decade ago and I believe the design elements remain similar. If the mechanics were to improve - i.e., less negative implications as pointed out, I would most definitely participate on occasion.

I will abandon the roulette idea. Not many players will like it, and honestly it'll crash the server 100% and have other issues. All out PVP will be enabled, boss will hit harder and become more defensive as we progress into newer characters.

PvP is the only movement force in this game! Stop it and game will degenerate faster than it is
